Changes to IPA Source Access: Enhancing Security and Streamlining Subscriptions

March 31, 2025 Update

Based on customer feedback, we’ve made a change: printing is now permitted for those with a NEW Online Individual Subscription. This update is now live. To access the printing feature, please log out, refresh your browser (or open a new browser instance or tab), and you should be able to print. You will see a small printer icon display in the center of the text when you open it in a new window.

IPA Source is updating its access policies to protect copyrighted materials, simplify subscription options, and provide improved text viewing on mobile devices. We acknowledge the importance of providing you reliable access to our database. The goal of these changes is to ensure long-term sustainability of our resource and improve our customers’ user experience.

Individual and Credit Pack Users

  • Existing individual subscriptions include print capabilities and viewing of texts in a new browser tab. Upon expiration, individual customers may purchase a NEW Online Individual Subscription, which offers printing capability and displays texts in a new browser tab.
  • Purchasers of credit packs or individual texts provide access to the text in a new browser tab. No printing capabilities are available for credit pack or individual text purchases.
  • Due to past misuse of our copyrighted material and AI intrusion, this change is being made to strengthen our ability to protect IPA Source content and maintain the integrity of our catalog.

Studio and Institutional Subscriptions

  • The individual and studio subscriptions are now combined in one NEW Online Individual Subscription offering at $139 per year. No new studio subscriptions are available for sale.
  • Existing studio subscriptions include print capabilities and viewing of texts in a new browser tab. Upon expiration, individual customers may purchase a NEW Online Individual Subscription, which offers printing capability and displays texts in a new browser tab.
  • Institutional subscription customers will retain download and printing capabilities until June 1. After expiration, institutional customers will view texts in a new browser tab, and have the ability to print the text.

New Individual Subscription Model

  • New individual subscribers and expiring studio subscribers may purchase a NEW Online Individual Subscription, credit pack(s), or individual texts. All texts open in a new browser tab, and printing capability is preserved if a NEW Online Individual Subscription is purchased.
  • Former studio subscribers may purchase a NEW Online Individual Subscription, credit pack(s), or individual texts. All texts open in a new browser tab, and printing capability is preserved if a NEW Online Individual Subscription is purchased. Because our NEW Online Individual Subscription is for the personal use of one individual, studio instructors should encourage their students to create an account at https://www.ipasource.com/my-account and purchase any necessary individual texts or a credit pack for use on the student’s personal mobile device, tablet, or computer.
  • Credit packs are offered in groups of any 4 texts at $23, any 8 texts at $45, or any 15 texts at $79. Customers have one year from the date of purchase to select their texts, but access to the text remains as long as the customer has an IPA Source account.
  • This streamlined model provides simplified access and a consistent user experience.

Why is IPA Source Making These Changes?

Increasingly, IPA Source has been fighting misuse of our copyrighted material and AI intrusion, finding our texts distributed on courseware websites, published without our permission on the web, and in some cases resold for profit. IPA Source content, including translations and transcriptions of opera arias, art songs, and Latin texts, is protected by copyright law. These materials are the result of significant intellectual effort and are the exclusive property of IPA Source.

Unauthorized distribution, sharing, or systematic reproduction of IPA Source content, including but not limited to posting on public websites, sharing through file-sharing services, creating course packs, or any other form of distribution beyond personal, individual use, is a violation of our copyright and is not considered fair use.

In addition, the growing support for PDFs by third-party software and web browsers has made it increasingly challenging to provide effective customer support.

It’s important to us to offer a high quality resource for our customers, and that our customers have a consistent experience in accessing IPA Source. IPA Source continues to be committed to supporting voices around the globe with high quality, reliable word-for-word translations of opera arias, art songs, and Latin texts.

Please reach out to us at any time with questions. Thank you for your continued support of IPA Source.
